Large deposits of shells found in Karnataka

UDUPI, April 11: Large deposits of marine molluscs have been found burried 4 metres deep in the soil about 5 km inland near Honnavar town in Karnataka's Uttara Kannada district. The deposits have been found to be in layers, and indicate that the area must at one time have been submerged by the sea, according to Dr N A Madhyastha, Professor and head of the department of Zoology, Poornaprajna College, Udupi.Copyright © 1999 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
