MUMBAI: British multinational Glaxo has entered into an arrangement with US giant Monsanto for distributing the latter's international sweetener brand, Equal, in India. Equal is an aspartame-based sweetener and its taste profile is closest to sugar compared with other high intensity sweeteners. Glaxo which (together with its associate company Burroughs Wellcome India Ltd) leads the domestic pharmaceutical market in terms of market share, will distribute Equal nation-wide through its extensive distribution network.

CII, SAP organise ProcessTech '99

MUMBAI: The Confederation of Indian Industry is organising an Asia-Pacific business technology conference for process manufacturers along with leading ERP vendor SAP India. Called ProcessTech '99, the two-day conference is the first such for manufacturers in the process industry, SAP executive vice-president, Ruth Connolly, said. The meet will be inaugurated by Ajit Kumar, secretary, department of industrial policy andpromotion, on Tuesday. It will have sector-specific presentations on the pharma, chemical and mill products.

Hinduja claim for Bangalore project

BANGALORE: A Hinduja-group led British consortium has come forward to undertake the Bangalore International Airport project at Devanahally. Special representative of Karnataka government in New Delhi Basavaraja Raya Reddy said that Ashok Hinduja of the group would meet Chief Minister J H Patel April 13 or 15 to discuss the matter. The group had written a letter pointing out that being the second lowest bidder, it be given the contract.

Sonata net spurts 75% to Rs 9.7 cr

MUMBAI: Sonata Software Ltd has posted a 75 per cent growth in net profit to Rs 9.75 crore on a turnover that grew 48 per cent to Rs 126.47 crore in the year ended March 31, 1999. In the last fiscal, Sonata had earned Rs 5.58 crore after taxes on a total income of Rs 85.6 crore. The company posted a growth of 76 per cent in export revenues and, as a percentage of totalrevenue, exports accounted for 50 per cent, up from 40 per cent in 1997-98. The board has recommended a dividend of 30 per cent on an equity of Rs 9.8 crore.

Intel launches 14 new products

MUMBAI: Intel Corporation has launched 14 new networking products in the Indian market on Monday. The products include network interface cards, hubs, switches and e-mail and internet station for small businesses. The company also made a presentation to MIS managers of large and medium enterprises demonstrating the products.
