MUMBAI, April 13: Justice A P Shah of the Bombay High Court today vacated the stay order on construction of a police complex on a plot at Juhu Vile Parle Development Scheme (JVPD) area. The stay was earlier granted by him on March 16 when the JVPD Co-operative Housing Association Ltd had moved the court against construction on the plot reserved for a police station and residential quarters. With the stay lifted, the police can now resume construction work on the 3274 sq yards plot as soon as possible. Rakesh Maria, Additional Commissioner of Police (north-west region) told Express Newsline, `` Now we will begin work within a week in full swing since we really need a new police station to relocate the Juhu police station from its present unsuitable premises.'' He added that the police already have the funds to go ahead but as the JVPD association had obtained a status quo, work was halted.
R M Sarnaik, senior police inspector of the Juhu police station also informed that following the report whichappeared in this paper on Monday, the Bombay High Court's decision today was indeed welcome.
The plot was given by JVPD to the state government way back in 1975. It was subsequently reserved for the police complex. However, due to paucity of funds the police department was unable to embark on any work after which the housing association obtained a stay against any construction on the plot.
