`Accident' re-registered as dowry death

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
SURAT, April 13: The Rander police on Tuesday re-registered a case lodged as accidental death as dowry death after the father of a 19-year-old married woman claimed that his daughter had not committed suicide, but was driven to death by her in-laws.

The deceased, Urvashi Patel, had been married only for a month before she committed suicide on April 9. None of the accused have been arrested, although the police have begun interrogations of people concerned.

According to one Magan Govind Patel's application to the commissioner of police on Tuesday afternoon, his daughter's husband and family members tortured her and demanded dowry.
