Training for rural midwives

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
VADODARA, April 13: Looking into the poor conditions and age old system of relying on dais for delivery in the Dabka village of Padra taluka, the Continuing Adult Education and Community Services of the M S University honourary director Kalpana Parlikar, with the financial aid of ONGC has taken up a programme of rural health training to the dais in the villages.

Despite rapid development in the health and reproduction systems, about 10,000 women of the Dabka village, depend on dais for delivery.

``The untrained dais conduct delivery in the most unhygienic situation,'' said Dr Mukesh, who is practising in the Dabka village. He claimed that most of these dais were untrained and did not work in the healthy conditions in which they were supposed to work.
