Baboor tipped to top the 12

GANDHIDHAM: Chetan Baboor, riding high on crest of his giant killing feats, is tipped to claim the mens' crown in the two-day Rs 1.33 lakh India top-12 prize money table tennis tournament to be held here from Wednesday.

Poulomi Ghatak of Bengal, who claimed the India Cup women's title, is tipped to win the womens' crown while fourth seed Anandita Chakraborty has pulled out of the tournament because of her exams.

Seedings: Men: 1. Chetan Baboor (IOC) 2. S Raman (IOC) 3. Arup Basak (HP) 4. Arjun Dutta (IOC), 5. S Deepak Thukral (Pnj) 6 Nupur Santra (Rlys) 7. Subhajit Saha (Bng) 8. Bhushan Thakur (Rlys).

Saff camp on

MARGAO: The soccer camp to pick the Indian squad for the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Cup, to be held at Margao from April 22, gotunderway on Monday.

All players have arrived on Sunday along with chief coach Sukhwinder Singh, assistant coach Krishnaji Rao and goalkeeper coach Brahmanand Shankwalker. The camp, which was to be held at Bangalore from April 12-18, was put off and shifted to Goa due to unfavorable ground conditions. Earlier, 25 players were shortlisted but the number has gone up now as Amit Das of Mohun Bagan is also included for the preparatory camp.

Vijay leads field

PATNA: Golfers like Vijay Kumar, winner of six tournaments so far this season, the leader of the Order of Merit, Uttam Singh Mundy, are among 72 professionals and amateurs who will participate in the five-day Patna Open golf tournament at Golf Club on Wednesday.

The main event would have a field strength of 72 professionals and eight amateurs.
