NEW DELHI, APRIL 16: The Delhi High Court on Friday asked the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to place before it a status report on supply of mid-day meal to about nine lakh primary school children in the Capital.A division bench comprising Justice Arun Kumar and Justice Manmohan Sarin issued the direction on a petition seeking CBI probe into the alleged bungling in supply of mid-day meal in 1,800 schools run by the corporation.
The petition filed by All India Lawyers Union (AILU) alleged that the meal worth Rs 3.18 crore was not being supplied according to the specification.
AILU counsel Ashok Aggarwal said the Corporation was to supply eggless cakes but instead fruit-bread was being supplied in its place.
However, MCD counsel Raman Duggal refuted the allegations saying that only eggless cake was being supplied and the test report of Prevention of Food Adulteration Department had also verified the same in a sample test done on March 31 after the issue was raised in the Corporation.
He saidsimilar test conducted by Union Ministry of Human Resource Development had confirmed that the eggless cake supplied to schools was according to the specifications.
Municipal Commissioner had also ordered CBI probe after the issue was raised in the Corporation sitting last month.
