Mumbai, APRIL 16: In a brutal murder, two unidentified assailants first stabbed a person and then shot him dead when he tried to escape at Dahisar (west) this afternoon.According to the Mumbai city police control, a profusely bleeding Jagdish Harilal Thakane (45), with stab wounds in his abdomen staggered into a rickshaw parked on the L T Marg at about 4.15 pm. Before the terrified rickshaw driver, whose identity has been withheld for security reasons, could ask Thakane where he wanted to go two persons came rushing towards the rickshaw and fired one round at Thakane from pointblank range.
Using presence of mind, the driver sped the rickshaw away from the duo before they could open fire again. He took Thakane straight to the Dahisar police station. The cops immediately swung into action and rushed Thakane to the Bhagwati hospital, where he was declared dead before admission.
Police recovered Thakane's passport from his person, which revealed that he was a resident of Gokuldham, third floor, Borivali(west). The Dahisar police have launched a manhunt for the assailants.
