CHANDIGARH, April 16: The Finance and Contract (F&C) Committee of the Municipal Corporation (MC) has asked the Director, UT Health Services, to check unauthorised sale of sugarcane juice in the city.In the committee's meeting held here today, the councillors pointed out that more than 70 rehri owners were selling sugarcane juice in different parts of the city and in the surrounding villages. This, they said, could cause diseases like cholera.
The meeting, which was presided over by city Mayor K.K. Adiwal and attended by committee members and senior officials of the MC, also okayed the proposal to provide gum-boots to the firemen.
It also approved the purchase of three water tenders and fabrication of water bouser of 1,8000 gallons capacity which would cost the Corporation Rs 15 lakh and Rs 8 lakh, respectively. A suggestion to upgrade the city fire stations was also made by some members.
The committee has asked the MC officials to not register or transfer any property in Manimajra and surrounding villages until a decision on the transfer fee is taken. Presently, properties in the NAC zone of Manimajra are being transferred free of cost, causing a revenue loss to the MC.
The committee members also decided to auction parking sites at Dhillon Theatre near Mani Majra on April 28. The appointment of an Assistant Public Relations Officer has also been recommended to provide a better interface with the media.
