Ministry order: Woman officer to oversee night rounds at LRS

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, April 16: The Union Health Ministry has ordered that a woman officer must accompany the director or any other official while on night rounds of wards in the LRS TB Hospital in Mehrauli here.

This order follows a nurse's allegation that Director V.K. Arora molested her on February 18 when she was alone in her duty room at night. The ministry has also withdrawn the administrative post of Dr S.B. Singh who had also been accused by the nurse and another woman officer of sexual harassment.

Meanwhile, a woman officer who had accused him of sexual harassment has been stripped of her powers by the management leading to fresh protests from the hospital staff. On Friday, workers of the hospital under the banner of Pragatisheel Mahila Sangathan sat on dharna in front of the Supreme Court accusing the government of supporting sexual harassment in workplace. The Supreme Court had given a broad definition of sexual harassment in a January 21 order, including mental agony in its ambit and had empowered victims to seek safeguards from the officials who harass them, the workers said. Now the government itself was flouting the Supreme Court's directives by letting the accused in the case to remain in the organisation, they said.
