50 wheat bags destroyed in FCI store fire
Ambala: Over 50 bags of wheat were burnt in a fire at the Food Corporation of India (FCI) stores at Barara, 35 kms from here today. Fire tenders were rushed to control the fire. According to Fire Officer A.K. Sharma, who dashed to the site, more than 50 bags were destroyed in the fire. The store was a saved by removing the bags from the fire site .The fire is said to have been caused by the negligence of FCI staff. It is suspected that a biri or cigarette thrown by someone may have caused the fire. The loss is substantial, as many wheat bags were also damaged by use of water to control the fire.Goods train wagon also catches fire
Ambala: One of the wagon's was detached from the 58-wagon goods strain at Mohri railway station, 10 kms from here, after it caught fire today. As per information, the Railways staff between Shahabad Markanda and Mohri stations noticed smoke coming out of a wagon carrying coal to Mandi Gobindgarh from Jharis. The goods train was stopped and the fire tenders requisitioned to control the fire.Fire brigade sources here said that the tenders sent to Barara to control the fire at the FCI stores, were diverted to Mohri station. The goods train carried on after detaching the affected wagon.
Demand for part-time BE at TIET
Patiala: A large number of in-service employees want wants that the Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (TIET) start a part-time Bachelor of Engineering course. One such employee, Hemant Ghai said a part-time course in B.E. will provide a chance to people in service, to increase their qualifications , without any loss in service. Thus benefiting both the government and the people.These employees have appealed to the Director of TIET to allow a part-time course in B.E. from the next session.
SDE/SDO screening test results
Patiala: T Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) has pointed out certain mistakes and omissions in the SDE/SDO screening test conducted by the commission and published in the paper on April 20. Roll number 52123 has been wrongly mentioned as 21123. The following roll numbers were left out:- 50228, 50242, 50270, 50296, 51032, 51072, 51107, 51140, 51201, 51259, 52063, 52124, 52161, 52205, 52298, 53054,,53091, 53159, 53208.
Market asked to provide facilities
Kharar: Kharar SDM Amarjit Singh Dhindsa has asked the Kurali Market Committee to arrange basic amenities for the farmers visiting the Kurali Grain Market during the current wheat season. Dhindsa was addressing a special meeting of arhtiyas from Kurali and officials from the Market Committee, Food and Supplies, PUNSUP and Punjab Warehousing Corporation at Kurali, near here, this evening. The Kharar SDM also ordered them to speed up the lifting of wheat from the Grain Market.
JTO caught red-handed
Patiala: A vigilance party headed by Jaipal Singh, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Vigilance), caught junior telecom officer (JTO) J. S. Yadav accepting a bribe from a customer. Sources from the Vigilance Department say that Yadav, who was working in the Chuni area, was caught red-handed taking a bribe of Rs 800 from Jawahar Lal, of Chuni Kalan. A case has been registered against Yadav.
