Tohra's innings in politics over: MP

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PATIALA, April 22: Charanjit Singh Walia, vice-president of the Shriomani Akali Dal (Badal) and a former MP, said today that the political innings of Gurcharan Singh Tohra, former president of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), were over and he would not be able to get a foothold in state politics again.

Addressing a press conference, Walia said that Tohra had been trying to create a controversy by raking up non-issues. But he would never be able to consolidate his position in this district or in the state.

Walia, who is the president of the Punjab State Services Federation, Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) Employees Federation, and the Punjab Mazdoor Dal, said that the joint action committee of the three organisations had decided to organise May Day functions at the state-level at Ludhiana this year.Among those who are expected to participate in the function are Chief Minister and Akali Dal president Parkash Singh Badal, Punjab speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal, Union Minister Surjit Singh Barnala, Punjab Finance Minister Kanwaljit Singh, Minister of State for Public Health Raja Narinder Singh, Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa and senior vice president of the Akali Dal Jagdev Singh Talwandi.
