Bias dissuade women from union work

EXPRESS NEWSLINE
APRIL 25: The daily grind of life, lack of strong family support system, lopsided gender bias and secondary position of female workers in the country had resulted in women workers displaying very little inclination towards participating in trade union activities.

Though men came forward to `lend a helping hand' in household chores, the major chunk of domestic work was still tackled by women, resulting in very little time to spare for union activies, according to a paper `The women workers' rights in India: Issues and Strategies' under a project sponsored by International Labour Organisation . Participation in union activities was still percieved as `unfeminine' and labelled `bad' for women.
