First Murugan temple in the US

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
CHENNAI, APRIL 27: Thousands of Hindu families in the United States of America will soon be able to offer prayers at the first Murugan temple in Washington.

To be opened on May 30, the two-storey temple complex with a total floor area of 15,000 square feet is built on a 11.5 acre plot not very far from the White House. Besides the main shrine for the presiding deity Lord Murugan and his consorts Valli and Deivanai, there will also be shrines for Lord Shiva, Parvathi, Ganesha, Palani Andhi and Navagrahas.

Constructed by noted architects T Sriskandarajah and Nanak Manu under the supervision of the famous Indian temple architect Muthiah Stapathi, the temple will have the salient features of the famous Murugan temples in South India. The Kumbhabhishekam will be performed by Sambasiva Sivachariar, chief priest of Kalikambal temple in Chennai and Ramaswami Adigalar from Coimbatore.

Ten sculptors trained at the Mahabalipuram Sculpture Institute are giving final touches to the sanctum sanctorum.
