Wood-laden truck seized
A daily wage chowkidar of forest department deployed at the Dhagunia check post in South Dangs single-handedly helped seize a truck carrying wood cut illegally from the Surgana forest area of Nashik in the neighbouring Maharashtra district.

Vasant Balubhai Gavit halted a truck coming from Maharashtra around 2 a.m. on Sunday. The miscreants tried to bribe him in vain but were able to put the truck reverse gear in flee.

Gavit rushed to forest guard V G Vasava and along with Ramjibhai Gavit, who is president of Social Justice department of Dangs district panchayat, successfully chased the truck in a jeep. The trio handed over the miscreants to the Surgana range forest officer Sonuvia, who seized the truck carrying Khair wood. DFO (South Dangs) Ram Kumar said though the offence technically took place outside Gavit's jurisdiction, he did a commendable job.

Quiet Muharram
More than 350 tazias were taken out in procession in different parts of the city as Muharram was observed peacefully on Tuesday. No untoward incident was reported from any part of the city and the district till going to the Press. The tazias were immersed in the Tapi river near Hodi Bungalow and wier-cum-causeway amidst heavy police bandobast.

Mobile show
Vyara information department-sponsored mobile exhibition van, highlighting the Gokul Gram scheme, was flagged off by prant officer Mamata Verma at the taluka office.
