SURAT, April 27: The South Gujarat University cancelled the production management paper of the second semester of the Master of Business Administration (MBA) course on Monday after a cyclostyled question paper was found in a book belonging to an examinee.A lecturer from the same department found the paper in one of the books kept in the hall while the examination was on. On seeing that the cyclostyled sheet matched the one the students were solving, he immediately contacted acting registrar H H Patel and MBA department head professor Satyenkumar.
Vice-Chancellor Premkumar Sharda, who was conducting interview for professorial vacancies at that point of time, learnt of the incident only after the registrar had cancelled the paper.
Though both the book and the cyclostyled question-paper were seized, examinees learnt that the test had been cancelled only while handing in their answer-scripts at the end of the three-hour session. The examination has been rescheduled for May 13.
Talking to Express Newsline, Sharda said the university was not sure in what circumstances the paper had leaked out. The university is yet to appoint any committee to inquire into the incident (since Tuesday was a holiday on the occasion of Muharram). He, however, said that the registrar's decision was right and hinted that it wouldn't be long before they discovered how the paper had been leaked.
Ruling out the possibility of a ``deliberate'' leak, Sharda said the university had nothing to hide. The guilty would be appropriately punished, he said.
University circles, however, were surprised to learn of the leakage of a paper in a professional course like MBA, more so, since those involved in the departmental affairs have a ``clean'' reputation. Given the small number of students who appear for the MBA examination, it was not difficult for the university administration to manage it, they said.
