Jamaican all-rounder to fill in for Carl Hooper in World Cup

BRIDGETOWN, APRIL 27: Young Jamaican all-rounder Ricardo Powell has replaced Carl Hooper in the West Indies World Cup squad.

Powell will be making his first appearance in the West Indies squad after playing in the `A' team and the Board Presidents' XI matches against Australia on their recent tour.

West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) executive secretary Andrew Sealy said the International Cricket Council's technical committee for the World Cup has accepted Powell as replacement for Hooper who retired from international cricket on Sunday.

Powell will leave for England with the rest of the West Indies squad on Sunday.

Clamp down on crowd
St John's: West Indies cricket chiefs are to meet for talks on how to avoid a repetition of the crowd trouble in the One-Day series against Australia that ended on Sunday.

WICB chief executive officer, Steve Camacho, said a discussion on security would be a key item on the agenda for their board meeting next month.

Some of the measures already raisedwere high fences, public education and only allowing the use of plastic bottles at all grounds.

Barbados Prime Minister Owen Arthur has said `sorry' to the cricketing world for the bottle-throwing incident. Arthur apologised ``on behalf of the children and younger people of Barbados.''
