Three foreign teams for Afzal Basketball

NEW DELHI, April 27: Three foreign school teams, one each from Dubai, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, will be participating in the in the Ninth Afzal Khan Memorial Basketball Tournament which gets underway at Dehradun from today at the Doon School Campus.

Organising secretary Asad Khan said that besides local teams of Doon School, Welham Boys School and Wood Stock School, Mussoorie, three foreign teams namely Ananda College (Colombo), Our Own English High School (Dubai) and Bangladesh K S Protishthan (Dhaka) would compete in the five-day tournament.

Other teams participating include Mayo College, Ajmer, Modern School, Delhi, Bishop Cotton School, Shimla, Vasant Valley School, Delhi, Amrit Model School, Abohar, Yadvindra Public School, Chandigarh and Delhi Public School, Delhi.

Vinay, Rahul shine
Excellent batting by Vinay (82) and superb spell by Rahul Mangotra (4 for 33) guided Clintus Packers to a six-wicket win over Sunstar.

Brief scores: Sunstar Club: 187 for 9 (Suresh 45, Anil Narula 27 not out, Rakesh 24, Rahul Mangotra 4 for 33, Vinay 2 for 30, Vivek Sharma 2 for 33) lost to Clintus: 189 for 4 (Vinay 82, Sandeep Sharma 33, Anuj Kapoor 24, Vivek Sharma 23).

Softball trials
Softball Association of Delhi will organise trials to select Delhi team for the Junior National Softball meet (boys and girls to be held at Ujjain from May 1 to 6) on April 28 at Presentation Convent School, opp. Red Fort at 2 pm for girls and at 3pm for boys. Participants should not be more than 18 years and should bring with them the proof of age and residence. They should report to RK Zutshi or Kamlesh Sharma at the venue.
