PUNE, April 30: Six persons, including two children, lost their lives in four separate road mishaps in the rural outskirts in the last three days. Seven persons were seriously injured in these accidents.Three persons, including a 10-year-old girl, were killed on the spot when a tempo collided head-on with their jeep on Pune-Saswad Road on Thursday afternoon.
The Tikare family from Dharwar was heading for prayers at Khandoba temple at Jejuri when the mishap took place.
Tikare had left Pune in their hired jeep in the afternoon. They had reached near Takrarwadi hamlet when the Pune bound tempo collided head-on with the jeep. The jeep was heavily damaged.
Rekha Kamlakar Tikare (39), 10-year-old Namrata Mohanrao as well as the jeep driver whose identity could not be ascertained till late evening died on the spot.
Six injured jeep passengers, including Kamlakar Gundurao Tikare (49), Indrajit Kamlakar Tikare (19), Wadhorani Kamlakar Tikare (17), Chandrabhaga Mohanrao Ghumare (41), Manisha Mohanrao Ghumare (12) and Guddi Ashok Lohokare (15), have been hospitalised. Tempo driver Krishna Kaluram Meshram (26) from Nagpur has been arrested.
Six-year-old Siddhant alias Siddhu Narendra Vedmutha was killed after he came under the wheels of a truck at Kamshet near Wadgaon Maval on Mumbai-Pune highway. Siddhant was playing in front of his house on Wednesday evening when the mishap took place. Truck driver Naimuddin Abdul Shaikh, a resident of Belavade village in Karad, produced himself at Talegaon police station.
Rajendra Dattatray Gholap (27) from Rohokadi village near Junnar was killed on the spot when a jeep dashed against his motorbike at Otur on Wednesday. Gholap's pillion rider Santosh Hanumant Dhankute was seriously injured. Sunil Kisan Salvi of Lonavala was killed on the spot when his M 80 dashed against the iron railings of a flyover at Lonavla on Thursday afternoon.
