Ramp for vehicular parking okayed

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PUNE, April 30: Irrigation Minister Eknath Khadse has given the go-ahead to the ambitious proposal of constructing a ramp between the Lakdi bridge and Gadgil bridge and Lakdi bridge to Chavan bridge for parking of two and four-wheelers.

A statement issued by BJP corporator Ujwal Keskar today stated that the city improvement committee of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) had placed the proposal for constructing such a ramp between the bridges which would take care of the problem faced by commuters for parking vehicles.

The proposed ramp would solve the parking problem of surrounding areas of Laxmi Road, Kelkar road and Tilak road. Keskar said that a delegation of BJP leaders including Girish Bapat, Pradeep Rawat, Vinayak Abhyankar and Subash Khadilkar met the irrigation minister who issued written instructions to the Chief Engineer to process the proposal.

Nearly 35,000 sq ft of land belonging to the irrigation department will be required to accommodate the parking of 500 four-wheelers and 2,850 two-wheelers between the Lakdi bridge and Gadgil bridge, Keskar said adding that the ramp is proposed to be built through privatisation on a build operate and transfer (BOT) basis. The proposal, however, has to be ratified by thePMC general body.
