Gujarat BJP unit to meet next week

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
AHMEDABAD, APRIL 30:Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has convened its State executive on May 3 and 4 to thrash out the party's strategy for the forthcoming mid-term polls. According to party spokesman Bharat Pandya, the party will decide on the strategy to be adopted after analysing each Lok Sabha seat. The State executive meeting dovetails with the national executive which will be held on May 1 and 2.

Pandya said BJP would appoint an in-charge during the executive for the seven Lok Sabha constituencies, which had sent Congress MPs, to improve the party's electoral prospects. The party would also beef up its network in those constituencies where the BJP had won with narrow margins in the last general election, he said.

The executive would be attended by Members of Parliament (MPs), party district unit presidents, district unit general secretaries, organisation secretaries, conveners of all cells besides the executive members, Pandya said.

He said that BJP would be little affected in the polls even if therewas a triangular fight. He said the party would sweep the polls, and would capture all Lok Sabha seats.

During the political review committee meeting held at Gandhinagar on April 28, Union Human Resource Development Minister Murli Manohar Joshi had briefed the members on the current political situation at the Centre, Pandya said. Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel and State unit president Rajendrasinh Rana assured Joshi that BJP would rout Congress in Gujarat and capture all 26 seats.

He said the committee meeting concluded that Congress had brought down the Vajpayee Government for its own greed for power. He said BJP would try to cash in on the sympathy generated by the fall of the Government and on the performance of the State and Central Governments.
