National honour for Shriram-G women

MUMBAI, April 30: Local outfit Shriram-G emerged triumphant in the Ladies National Bridge team Championship conducted by the Mumbai Sports and Bridge Association at Andheri Sports Complex today. In the final, played over three sets of 10 boards each, Shriram-G, comprising Bimal Sicka, Shailaja Mahajan, Yvette Singapuri and Sheelu Thadani defeated Four Star, also of Mumbai, 106-37.

A-I, W Rly enter semis

Air-India, aided by raider Amol Mhatre who claimed three victims in one raid before the break, cruised into the semi-finals of the Mayor's Cup kabaddi tournament at Bharatiya Kreeda Mandir, Wadala.

Joining the airmen were Western Railway who beat Greater Mumbai Police 12-11. With one minute to go, the policemen's Sachin Mhaskar claimed two to make it 11-10 but the next raid by WR's Prafulla Sardesai saw the policemen concede two points and the match to their opponents.

Air-India defeated Maharashtra State Electricity Board 23-17. Sagar Bandekar inspired Mahindras to a 31-18 win over ONGC whileCentral Railway pipped Reserve Bank 13-11 in the tie-breaker.

Other results: Dr Shirodkar's bt Savitribai Phule 28-27 via tie-breaker, Chembur Kreeda Kendra bt Vivek (Vasai) 25-9, Vishwashanti bt Sneh Vikas 30-28, Suvarna Yug (Pune) bt Rachana (Nashik) 46-39.

Nagpada Neighbourhood House boys came from behind to best Wellingdon YMCA 42-39 to advance to the boys semi-final league of the 9th DB Prabhu Memorial basketball tournament, at Indian Gymkhana today.

Scholar in semis

Scholar High School and BombayScottish entered the semi-finals of the 2nd ICSE schools cricket tournament at Azad Maidan today.

Brief scores: Activity 138 (Danyush 37, Sapan 35, Vijay Shah 4-16, Ronak 3-22) lost to Scholar 139-5 (Vishrut Bhatnagar 50, Malav Rajda 38, Gagnesh 3-17); Maneckji Cooper 129 (Mohit 32, Navin 38, Viveck Mullaji 5-32) lost to Bombay Scottish 131-4 (Ashish Jawaharkar 40, Jinay Doshi 52 n.o.).

Sanzgiri, Rajadhyaksha prevail

Veterans Anirudhha Sanzgiri and Rajan Rajadhyaksha led the field along with 17 others at the end of the second round of the Pre-Rating Selection Chess Tournament organised by Bombay Chess Association at the Zandu Pharmaceutical Works Canteen today. Top seed G Balaji, with black scored a 21-move win over Anuj Pandit while Podar's Abhijit Bhurke crawled to a 44-move win over another school lad Yashodhan Gogate.
