Call for facts on shifting of power poles
The Kum Rajshree Parmar Memorial Foundation, a non-government organisation devoted to the mission of road safety and prevention of accidents, has called for true facts about the shifting of electric poles for the information of the citizen whose life is in danger due to inaction on part of the civic authorities.A statement issued by trustee of the foundation Chandmal Parmar stated that according to the information provided at the general body meeting of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), out of 1388 poles, 913 had been shifted and 575 remain to be shifted. According to the MSEB against 1220 poles and electrical lines suggested by the PMC, 869 poles have been shifted while work of shifting 350 has been undertaken.
Parmar, however, claimed that the both the PMC and MSEB authorities were not providing the true information about the shifting of the poles and there was no coordination among them regarding the issue.
According to Parmar, the poles at the busy locality of Shivaji Road and timber market road have not been shifted since five years and this abnormal dealy in shifting the poles posed a risk to the safety of the road user.
The statement also said that the Additional Municipal Commissioner Deepak Kapoor had given the information to the general body meeting only after receiving the foundation's summons of writ petition submitted on March 18 in the Bombay High Court for six important traffic related points including the shifting of poles. The foundation has therefore called for true facts from the authorities regarding the matter.
HC upholds GR
Mumbai: The Bombay High Court on Tuesday upheld a recent government resolution (GR) that provided for compulsory entrance test for students seeking admission in minority institutions offering masters of management studies and such other professional courses.
Hearing a petition filed by Pune-based Maharashtra Cosmopolitan Education Society and Allana Institute of Management Studies, Justice A C Agarwal and Justice D K Deshmukh dismissed the contention that the GR was ``arbitrary and bad in law''.
