PSI had record of marked indiscipline

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
SURAT, May 4: Perhaps it was a tragedy waiting to happen. Because Jetsinh Bhurabhai Parmar had a disciplinary record: He had been suspended twice and on at least two occasions had gone on long leave when transferred. City police officials said on Wednesday that till date four cases have been registered against him.

Born in Junagadh district in 1953-54 to a retired deputy superintendent of police (DYSP), Jetsinh joined the police force as a police sub inspector after completing his BA. His first offence came about eight years ago in Junagadh, where he threatened a person after consuming liquor. He was suspended after an official inquiry and transferred to Surat, where he was posted at the Varachha PS.

In 1997, while at the Varachha police station, he pointed his service revolver at then Police Inspector B R Patel over a minor argument. A departmental inquiry was initiated following which he was suspended for about four months.

He was then shifted to the Athwa Lines police station but proceeded on leave and did not join for 230 days. He joined duty only in the first week of March this year. Six days ago, on April 29, he was transferred as Reader PSI in the office of the ACP (C division) but did not assume charge and proceeded on sick leave.

However, Parmar was said to be competent as far as his work was concerned. ``He was doing a good job in detection and investigation in the past couple of months. I just had to give him the line of investigation and he worked his way through,'' according to his immediate senior at the police station, PI G B Darji.
