BSP against Congress, BJP alliance

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
SURAT, May 4: The Bahujan Samaj Party will not forge electoral alliance either with the Congress or the BJP as both the parties are manuvadi. The BSP, however, does not rule out alliance or seat adjustment with non-BJP, non-Congress parties, BSP supremo Kanshi Ram told reporters here on Tuesday.

Stating that his party would fight against both the parties to ensure that neither gets more than 150 Lok Sabha seats in the forthcoming elections, he claimed that following the last general elections, the BSP had emerged as the fourth major political party in the country after the Congress and the BJP. ``After the fall of the BJP-led government, my party has emerged as the third major force and soon we will be number one after demolishing both the parties'', he said.

The BSP leader said his party voted against the Vajpayee government because it wanted elections which were, ``Necessary to test our growing mass base and popularity.''

Stating that instability would continue to characterise Indian politics, he said the coming elections would throw yet another hung Parliament. ``By November 2000 the country would face another elections,'' he claimed, adding he would not contest in the coming elections nor any other election after that.

Admitting that his party did not have any organisational base in Gujarat, he said his visit was aimed at that. Incidentally, he said the same thing when he came to Surat before the last general elections.

The party would field only one candidate in the next polls from Gujarat, he said, adding, the choice of the seat was yet to be made.
