Crime Watch -- Surat

Cheating case lodged
Vadodara: Indian Petrochemical Corporation Limited (IPCL) has lodged a cheating case against three officials of the Bagga Transport Company. According to an FIR filed by Narendra Sharma of IPCL, plastic granules worth Rs 4.64 lakhs were loaded on a Company truck (GJ-6-T-7268) in March, 1999, for delivery to a customer in Ludhiana. However, the goods never reached their destination. It is suspected that the granules might have been sold on the black market. The Jawaharnagar police is investigating.

Chain-snatching
Two incidents of chain-snatching were reported from the J.P. Road area last evening. According to the police, a gold chain worth Rs 11,000 was pulled from Shaktinagar Society resident Meenaben Bhagwanbhai's neck by two unidentified men riding a Yamaha motorcycle. In another incident, a gold chain valued at Rs 5,000 was snatched from the neck of Jaishreeben Biharilal, a resident of Sanhan Park Society on Productivity Road, by a youth on a black motorcycle. According to the police, the incident occurred in the Madhavnagar area. Both incidents, according to the police, occurred within two hours of each other. Investigations are on.

Computer stolen
A computer worth Rs 38,000 was reportedly stolen from Shrihari Clinic in Shanti Niketan Society on Waghodia Road last night. According to Panigate police, the thieves opened the shutter lock and decamped with the computer. A case has been registered.

Vehicles stolen
Two vehicles were reported to have been stolen from different parts of the city last evening. According to the police, a Bajaj scooter worth Rs 15,000 was stolen from outside C C Mehta auditorium in M S University, a Sunny moped ) worth Rs 4,000 lifted from house number 17 in Ganapati Society in Makarpura.
