Questions arise over `fifth' person in Panchal case

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
VADODARA, May 6: Did financial hardship cause Ramesh Panchal to kill his wife and two children and then commit suicide? Or was there a fifth person in the picture?

A letter written by Panchal's two brothers to District Superintendent of Police Shamsher Singh on Wednesday suggests that there may be more to the Bhaniara village incident than meets the eye. They allege that police constables from the Waghodia police station found a written note in the room where the four bodies were found on May 2, but were deliberately suppressing it for reasons unknown.

The brothers say the note must have mentioned the circumstances -- and may be even the people -- that led to the tragedy Singh, however, says that the constables on duty had denied finding any such note. ``The panchnama only mentions some quotation papers, no hand-written notes'', he says, adding, however, that the police were investigating the outside abetment angle.
