Subsidy for units set up in 1986-91

SURAT, May 6: Industry Minister Suresh Mehta announced that industrial units, which were set up during 1986-91 and could not enjoy sales tax benefit, will be compensated with subsidy.

Speaking at an open house, organised by the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry here on Thursday, he said the government was considering giving permanent SSI registration to chemical units set up in the chemical zone.

Plans are afoot to extend the subsidy and sales tax benefit to those units which had come during 1990-90 industrial policy. But for that, the minister pointed out, the units would have to fulfill three criteria - power utilisation, commencement of commercial production and purchase of raw material.
