Two die from burns
One Asha Rajesh Gamit, a woman residing at Padmavati Society in Limbayat area of the city, died at the Maskati hospital on Thursday morning, where she was being treated for burn injuries sustained while cooking a fortnight ago. The Limbayat police, quoting the dying declaration of the woman, said that she was heating food over a stove on April 22 when it exploded, causing burn injuries to her. Another married woman, Situ Somnath Udiyamali (25) also died in the New Civil Hospital on Thursday, where she was being treated for injuries sustained while cooking food in her U P Nagar house on Monday. The police have registered cases under section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure in the respective police stations and are investigating further.

Attempted loot
A youth who attempted to loot a jeweller in Navapura area of the city on Thursday afternoon was overpowered by people nearby, beaten-up and handed over to the Chowk Bazaar police. According to the police, one Atul Jagdishprasad Lawaniya (27), a resident of Sikandar Road, Agra and presently living with his brother Ajay Lawaniya at Udhna Railway Colony, was allegedly attempting to snatch away a gold ring from Rajendra Jewellers', Parsi Sheri before he was nabbed. Atul walked into the showroom, demanded to see a ring but instead threw chilli powder into the eyes of the owner, Mukesh Parikh, it was alleged. Even as he was making an escape, people surrounded him and beat him up before handing him over to the police.

Missing
A 23-year-old youth, resident of Limbayat area of the city has been missing since Wednesday evening, a case registered in the police station on Thursday said. Paresh Hirawala, a resident of Marutinagar, Limbayat told the police that Hemant Hirawala, a relative living with him walked off without informing anyone and has not returned since. The police have registered a case and are investigating.
