CHANDIGARH, May 7: The Standing Finance Committee of PGI has granted approval to the engineering projects, including an advanced cardiac centre, advanced eye centre, and remodelling of Operation Theatre Complex.According to Director, Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Dr B. K. Sharma, "Various engineering projects were given a final clearance by the finance committee. These projects have been dexterously worked upon and prepared, the proposal for which was submitted earlier and had been awaiting approval."
There is a proposal for an advanced cardiac centre with a building of its own on the lines of Advanced Pediatrics Centre. The project, for which Rs 45 crore have been sanctioned, will have the latest equipment, more beds and also additional staff. Land has already been earmarked for the project.
Another Rs 20 crore project which has been approved is that of an advanced eye centre. The centre, to be equipped with the latest technology gadgets, will also have its own building and staff. The land has already been allotted for the purpose.
There is a proposal to remodel the present Operation Theatre Complex into a more advanced one. The project, for which Rs 5 crore has been sanctioned, includes complete renovation of the OT modelled on the lines of such theatres in advanced countries.
A sum of Rs 6 crore has been sanctioned for a 66/11 KV electricity project. With the setting up of this project the institute will have a power station.
Other projects which have been given the final nod include construction of houses for the staff. The project which will cost Rs 2 crore also includes the construction of houses for the resident doctors of the institute and other employees.
However, when these projects will finally be realised cannot be ascertained. Said Dr Sharma," These proposals are a part of the Ninth Plan and it will take time for them to actually materialise. Work on the projects of the Eighth Plan has hardly finished as of now. But since the Finance Commission has given the approval it means that we can start working on these."
