CHANDIGARH, May 7: The city police have registered a case against Sudeshan Kumar Jain of Bhartiya Sarv Kalyan Sang Samiti and certain employees of the Printing and Stationery department of Haryana for defrauding the department and causing the state exchequer a loss of nearly Rs 7.5 lakh.While Jain's bills should have amounted to around Rs 1.7 lakh, he had already claimed a sum of nearly Rs 9.24 lakh. This he allegedly did by tampering with the rates, in connivance of several employees of the Haryana government press.
The officials allegedly include S. C. Puri, Hari Om Bansal, Jasbir Singh, Saroj Prahar, S. L. Khattar, Sube Singh, Chander Kumar Mittal, Roop Lal Sharma and A. P. Bhatnagar. The discrepancies in the rates were detected after they were tallied with the Sector 18 government press. The case was registered on the complaint filed by controller Narinder Gupta.
The city police have registered a case of cheating and forgery under Section 420, 467, 471, 120-B of the Indian Penal Code.
Judge appointed
City advocate M. S. Chauhan today joined as Additional District and Sessions Judge at Patiala. According to a press release, he had joined the legal profession in 1983 at Chandigarh.
