Change in school timings
Some of the city's convent schools have changed the school timings because of the soaring temperature. While St. Stephen's will close at 12 p.m. instead of 1.40 p.m., DAV Senior Secondary School, Sector 8, today closed one hour earlier at 1 p.m. The new timings at St. Stephen's will be applicable from May 10. Vivek High School has preponed its holidays from May 25 to May 14. The UT Education Department plans to change school timings only when the temperature gets hotter, said a senior official of the department.

Electoral roll revision starts
The second phase of revision of electoral rolls in the Union Territory will start here tomorrow. The two-day special revision will continue on May 9. In the first phase on April 24 and 25, City residents got an opportunity to get their names added or deleted in the UT electoral rolls.

Manimajra shops closed
The Chandigarh administration has declared May 9 a closed day for all shops and commercial establishments situated in Manimajra, instead of May 10. The decision has been taken in view of the special revision of electoral rolls being conducted by the administration on May 8 and 9 in the Union Territory of Chandigarh.

Low water supply
Members of the Panjab University Residents' Welfare Society, Sector 25, are agitated over the problem of low water pressure that they have been reportedly facing for the past two months. A press release issued by association secretary S. R. Sharma stated that despite a delegation meeting the Mayor and Chief Engineer, MC, on May 4 and a subsequent inspection, there was no respite.

Research papers
The Executive Council of the Association of Population Geographers of India, has invited original research papers for its cash prize of Rs 2,500, which is awarded to the Young Population Geographer of the Year. A press release issued by Prof Swaranjit Mehta, senior joint secretary of the association, stated that the papers should reach the Department of Geography, PU, latest by June 30.

Other private schools are likely to follow the same pattern.
