CHANDIGARH, May 7: Kewal Krishan, owner of a local bottling unit, was today sentenced to undergo six-month rigorous imprisonment for keeping in his possession adulterated sweetened carbonated water.UT Chief Judicial Magistrate Sant Parkash convicted the accused under the Prevention of Food Adulteration Act, and also directed him to pay a fine of Rs 1,000. If the accused defaults in paying the fine, he will have to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of one month. The accused, who owns a bottling company in Industrial Area, was booked here on October 29, 1990, on the said charges. Food Inspector O. P. Gautam registered the FIR after a thorough inspection.
It had been stated that on July 25, 1990, the Food Inspector found 20 crates of sweetened carbonated water (orange) in Kewal Krishan's bottling unit. Each crate had 24 bottles. After giving a notice, the inspector asked for a sample.
Later, the sample was given to a public analyst to be inspected for adulteration. As per the report given, the water was found to be adulterated and the FIR was lodged.
