Beopar Mandal seeks lower ST in UT

CHANDIGARH, May 7: The Chandigarh Beopar Mandal while welcoming the reduction in sales tax rates on different commodities in Punjab, has urged the Chandigarh Administration to follow suit in the Union Territory also. The Beopar Mandal also called for following the Punjab pattern on the issue of summary assessment of Sales Tax up to 1995.

In a press release issued here today, Beopar Mandal general secretary Diwakar Sahoonja said a delegation of their members would soon meet the UT Adviser and UT Administrator to press for the reduction in sales tax rates in Chandigarh so that the traders in the city do not suffer due to the higher tax rates than those in the neighbouring states.

The Beopar Mandal has been demanding lower rate of taxes (below 5 per cent), besides abolition of surcharge.

Seminar on managing water resources
A function to enhance awareness about managing water resources was organised at the Government Senior Secondary School for Boys, Panchkula, by the Environment Society of Haryana today.

Various preventive measures against water-borne diseases were highlighted during the seminar attended by about 200 students and teachers. A debate and slogan competition on the theme of clean water resources and an on-the-spot painting competition were also organised.

The results of various competitions, in the order of merit, are -Debate: Yogesh Kumar, Rakesh Kumar. Painting: Amit Gupta, Suresh Kumar. Slogans: Amit Kumar, Surinder Singh.
