Retired school principal murdered

NEW DELHI, May 7: A 60-year-old retired school principal was found murdered in her flat in Janakpuri in west Delhi last evening. Usha Pandit used to live alone in a group housing society complex. Last evening, an acquaintance, who had dropped in to see her, discovered her in an injured state. He apparently told the police that the door was not latched and when he went inside, he found her lying unconscious on the floor. She was apparently hit on the head from behind with a blunt object.

Police officials said that they had received his call at around 6.30 pm yesterday. On reaching the victim's house, they found that the victim still breathing. They immediately rushed her to the Deen Dayal Upadhayay Hospital, but she succumbed to injuries en route.

Senior police officials said that the woman was staying alone and had employed a maid. Her relatives however, used to visit her quite frequently, they said. Police officials also said that some carpenters had come to the house for some repair work a few days ago and they would be questioned.

Police officials said that there were no signs of ransacking in the house. However they said that they were close to solving the case.

Usha hailed from Garhwal and has a daughter, who is married and lives in Delhi. However, they said that there were differences between the mother and daughter and they were not in touch with each other.
