PUNE, May 7: In a move aimed at making the administration more transparent, District Collector Vijay Kumar Gautam is all set to introduce `Touch screen computer system' at the collectorate within a week. Moreover, he has plans to launch a web site within a month to empower the people to avail of information to which they have legitimate access. This revelation was made by Gautam himself at the demonstration and presentation of the single window system introduced by him at his office to disseminate information about functioning of his department and to help people in getting their work done from the bureaucracy. The function was organised by the Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture on Friday afternoon.
Gautam said the single window system which was introduced by him last year to guide the people and help them in getting their work done from the revenue department staff, has increased efficiency of the bureaucracy besides curbing corruption.
``Previously, I used to receive 50 to 60 corruption complaints per month. Ever since the single window system has been introduced, the number had nosedived to five to six,'' he claimed.
Describing the single window system as a ``people friendly, service oriented delivery system of collectorate and its subsidiary offices,'' Gautam said the new system was based on the motto ``Put people first''.
While saying that the single window system was the the first step toward transparency, he added the next steps would be introducing ``touch screen computerised service'' and a web site of the Pune Collectorate.
A special cell equipped with computer would be formed at the office of district collector to enable the people to avail the information and guidance they need as a part of the ``touch screen system.'' Help of NGOs will be sought to implement the system, he said.
In the later stage a web site containing information on procedures and schemes, bulletin board service, grievance redressal system and suggestion and complaint box would also be launched, he added.
