EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE

MAY 7: In a strange case where the father is sought to be punished for the alleged misdeeds of his son, Vijay Loke, a deputy leader of the Shiv Sena has moved the Bombay High Court praying that Chhagan Bhujbal, leader of the State Legislative Council be debarred from entering the House since his son had allegedly given a false application to the University of Mumbai!

At the division bench of the Chief Justice Y K Sabharwal and Justice S Radhakrishnan, Bhujbal's son, Pankaj Bhujbal in an affidavit claimed that the application purported to be filled by him was not his, at all. In fact, Bhujbal's lawyers argued that the petition was full of loopholes and politically motivated and that the bench should not entertain itl.

An enraged CJ then remarked that if the petitioner was using the court to settle political scores, serious action would be taken against him. The University has been asked to file an affidavit and the matter is posted for hearing on June 14th. Loke has in his petition claimed that PankajBhujbal, son of Chhagan Bhujbal had given a false application to the Institute of Distant Education, University of Mumbai where he applied for the TYBCom when he had not passed the FY and SYBCom examinations. Pankaj Bhujbal, however, has denied the charges that he had ever applied for the TYBCom courses. In his affidavit he has claimed that the signature in the application says `P C Bhujbal' which is not his name. Also the birthdate in the application form showed February 1, 1969, while his birth is March 19, 1973.

Bhujbal said he had passed his 12th standard exams from Rizvi College in March 1990 and then joined Vasant Dada Patil Engineering College. However, since he did not have an aptitude for engineering, he opted out in March 1993 and in June joined Rizvi College for a diploma in catering. He has claimed the time when the alleged application for TYBCom was supposed to have been made, he had been pursuing the catering course!
