Harmeet to defend his title in Malaysia

CHANDIGARH, May 7: A confident Harmeet Singh Kahlon, of Punjab, who plays from Chandigarh Golf Club, is all set to defend his title in the Panasonic Savjana Open Golf Championship to be held at Saujana Golf Country Club in Kuala Lumpur from May 18 to 20.

The ace Indian amateur golfer Harrmeet had won this prestigious championship last year. He will also participate in the Pan West Malaysian Amateur Golf Championship to be held at Royal Perak Golf Club in Ipoh, from May 13 to 16. These tournaments attract the best amateur field of golfers from the Asia Pacific region including Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Thailand, Phillipines, Myanmar, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Singapore.

Amit Luthra also of India is also a past winner of this championship. Harmeet is sponsored by his employeers Oil India Limited and Petroleum Sports Control Board.

MES XI win
M.E.S. Cricket Coaching Centre defeated Friends Club, Samana by six wickets in the first Hot Weather under-16 league cricket tournament being played at M.E.S. ground at Patiala today.

FCC Samana won the toss and batted first. They were dismissed for 93. Samana club spinner Arun was the main destroyer as he claimed four wickets for 18 runs.

MES achieved the target in just 11.2 overs, with Jatinder contributing an unbeaten 42.

Brief scores: Friends Club, Samana 93 in 17 overs (Karamveer 30, Prince Singla 14, Mohit 15, Arun 4 for 18, Rinku 2 for 23). MES CC, Patiala 96 for 4 in 11.2 overs (Jatinder 42 not out, Rinku 25, Jagrup 15, Navneet 2 for 20, Narinder two for 28).

Best player
Amit Bhalla, a student of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 33 D, has been declared the best player in the Santosh Rana Sub-Junior Ball Badminton Chandigarh State Championship. He has also been selected for the Nationals to be held in Allahabad from May 24 to 28.
