Kalyan-baiters give party a week's time

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

LUCKNOW, MAY 8: Dissident BJP MLAs in Uttar Pradesh today virtually gave a week-long ultimatum to the party high command for removal of Chief Minister Kalyan Singh failing which they would chart their course of action.A day after over 30 MLAs submitted their resignation from the state legislature to the party president Kushabhau Thakre in Delhi yesterday, dissident spokesman and MLC, Rajesh Pandey, said they had communicated to Thakre their demands in "unequivocal terms" and were hopeful of a "positive response".

"We have, however, decided to hold a meeting on May 15 again to chalk out the future course of action," added Pandey.

The dissident legislators returned to Lucknow today.

Meanwhile, state BJP president Rajnath Singh held parleys with some of the dissident legislators to resolve the crisis. Expressing confidence that the crisis would be over soon, Singh said "serious efforts" were on in this direction.
