Donation of text books, notes

Students who are finished with their text books and notes can donate them to a book bank set up by Akshara, a resource centre at Dadar. The books will be passed on to students who cannot afford to buy them. Contact Akshara at room no 49, second floor, Gujarati Medium School No 2, Gokhale Road Municipal School, next to Oriental Bank of Commerce, Dadar (west); phone 4309676 between 11 am and 4.30 pm Tuesday to Saturday. The library is closed on Sundays, Mondays and public holidays.

Akshara is a non-profit organisation, working among students and lecturers in different colleges through workshops, seminars, student newsletters, study groups, and wall posters. It has a library with 3,000 books, 10,000 documents and 30 current journals in English and Marathi for free reference.

Screening of children's films

The Children's Film Society of India and children's theatre group Aavishkar are holding screenings of children's films at Plaza Cinema, Dadar, every Sundaythrough May. Karamati Coat and Halo were previously screened, and on the coming Sunday, Marathi film Bal Shivaji will be screened. The tickets cost Rs one per child, and the show begins at 9 am. Two more films, Abhay (Hindi) and Aasman se Gira, will also be shown. For further details, contact Aavishkar on 4445871.

Course in web designing

Anmol Solutions will offer training for elementary courses in computers, web designing, web engineering and web entrepreneurship. Batches commence on May 24. Six students will be taken per batch. Anmol is also offering a discount scheme, and to qualify, students have to take an aptitude test. Contact Alifya Badshah or Dimple Mehta on 3450640 or 3443687.

Leucoderma check-up camps

The All India Leucoderma Eradication Charitable Trust is organising free leucoderma check-up camps on the second Sunday of every month at Sharda Shram Vidya Mandir, Bhawani Shankar Road, room no 214/215, Kabutarkhana, Dadar (W).
