NADIAD, May 10: As many as 100 new recruits of State Reserve Police serving with Group Seven at Nadiad have been shifted to another base on charges of inaction in the May 5 incident, when scores of jawans heckled and pushed around Additional Director-General of Police (Arms unit) S Banerjee and Kheda DSP B D Vaghela to stall any move to shift their camp to Kheda.Highly placed police and SRP sources said the new recruits, who have been sent to the Karai camp, near Gandhinagar, had defied directives to control an unruly mob of SRP jawans and their families.
A senior official said, ``The recruits did nothing while others were holding the SRP office virtually to ransom. That is why they have been shifted.''Kapadwanj DySP Girish Singhal, who has been handed charge of the case, said the inquiry would be concluded within a fortnight. SRP group commandant N K Jhala refused to comment, stating investigations were underway.
He, however, described as ``unfortunate'' the disrespect shown to the additional DG.
