BHUBANESWAR, MAY 10: The Janata Dal is having second thoughts about seat adjustments for the coming elections with the Biju Janata Dal, which is heading for a definite split following the dissolution of its Political Affairs Committee.
The core committee of the JD which was constituted by Dal national president Sharad Yadav to negotiate seat adjustments with other parties met here on Monday to study the situation after dissolution of the BJD PAC.
They reportedly discussed how the BJD was slowly disintegrating because of the open bickering between its chief Naveen Patnaik and senior leader Bijay Mahapatra. Some members asked whether it will be justified for the JD to enter into any kind of understanding with the BJD in this background.
The members also discussed about the division in the Congress and the non-functioning of the state government. The leaders felt that the Janata Dal should wait for the attitude to be adopted by the Bharatiya Janata Party towards the two groups in the BJD in case there is asplit.
According to sources, there was a difference of opinion among the core committee members as to whether the JD should approach the BJD for talks for the second time. Some of the members felt that as the Janata Dal had taken the initiative for talks, the BJD should now reciprocate the gesture. The leaders were of the view that though all efforts should be made towards defeating the Congress in the next elections, the JD should not surrender before any political party.
Leader of the Janata Dal Legislature Party Narasingh Mishra apprised the committee on the progress of talks with different political parties. The members also wanted that the Janata Dal should have talks with the CPI for soliciting its support in the next elections.
Mishra, when contacted, refused to comment on the proceedings of the meeting.
