Indian and Lankan teams for Pandove benefit match

CHANDIGARH, May 10: The Indian and Sri Lankan cricketers taking part in the World Cup in England will play a limited over one-day day-night match at the SAS Nagar on June 26. The PCA is organising the benefit match for its secretary and former Indian junior selector M P Pandove who in turn has decided to donate the entire amount to the Dhruv Pandove Trust. The match will be known as `Friendship Cup'. The organisers are keeping a reserve day in case of rain etc.

According to PCA Administrative Officer Brig G S Sandhu and Mohali Cricket Association secretary G S Walia, the Sri Lankan and Indian players had already signed the contract with the event management group to participate in the benefit match. The players will return straight from England on June 24 at Mumbai and reach the Chandigarh on June 25.

ESPN will cover the match live throughout the world, including the United States where people have started taking keen interest in the gentlemen's game. Radiant Sports will meet the players fee, travel allowances and other facilities up to Chandigarh. The PCA will provide boarding and lodging, local transport and expenses of the event management.

MCA secretary Walia said that the PCA hopes to earn Rs 90 lakh from sale of tickets, ground level advertisements and title sponsor. The title sponsor will be finalised ``very soon''. Sale of tickets for the match will begin on May 15. The denominations of the tickets are being finalised.

`Kookaburra' balls are being imported for the June 26 50-overs-a-side match. The players will sport coloured clothings. The match will begin at 4 p.m. keeping in view the hot weather conditions in the region.

India XI: Mohd Azharuddin (captain), Sachin Tendulkar, Ajay Jadeja, Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble, Saurav Ganguly, Robin Singh, Nayan Mongia, Ajit Agarkar, Javagal Srinath, Devashish Mohanty, Venkatesh Prasad and S Ramesh.
Sri Lanka XI: Arjun Ranatunge (captain), Arvinda de Silva, Sanath Jayasurya, Romesh Kauwitharana, Roshan Mahaname, Hasan Tilakeratne, Upul Chandana, Chamunda Vaas, Pramodaya Wickramasinghe, Muttiah Muralidharan, Sanjeeva Ranatunge and Don Arunasiri.
