Watching South Africa play their warm-up game against Kent, it is easy to see why they are favourites to win the World Cup. Their cricket is marked by two qualities: cold precision and hot intensity. Even allowing for the fact that they were playing a declining county side, their approach was dead serious and their tune-up purposeful. They batted with skillful extravanganza to make 320 for 6 in 50 overs and then bowled and fielded like vigorously. It will take luck, pluck, and a lot more to beat this side.
