Kabaris resent move to ban entry

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
CHANDIGARH, May 14: Members of the Chandigarh Kabari Union today criticised the alleged move of the UT police in banning their entry into sectors for collecting junk from residential premises.

Ram Shanker, president of the union, alleged that since the last twenty days, members of the union were being denied entry into various sectors by the respective beat officers. The members said that since they were out of work since the last 20 days, their families were suffering. Ram Shanker said that a deputation of their members were trying to seek an appointment with the IGP but alleged that they were refused for the same by her staff.

The members threatened to go on hunger strike outside the office of the IGP until job normalcy was restored in the city. They said their families were starving due to this decision of the UT police, so an arrangement for food for their families should be made by the police department in case they intend to continue with the alleged policy of debarring the kabaris from collecting junk.
