SAS NAGAR, May 14: A three-day national conference on "Information Technology for Social Development and Productivity" began at Centre for Electronics Design and Technology of India here today.Speaking on the occasion, Union Department of Electronics Secretary and CEDTI governing council chairman Ravinder Gupta said that Punjab has enough manpower and made a mark abroad in the field of science. He said: "Industrial revolution has provided tremendous opportunities world over, particularly in software development. It is also going to play a vital role in economic and social spheres."
National Informatics Centre Deputy Director General Dr. N. Vijayaditya cited the example of over 70 hamlets near Kolhapur, Maharashtra, where a project on computerisation brought about a tremendous change.
Speaking on the occasion, CEDTI director Dr R.S. Khandpur highlighted the achievement of the institution which started functioning in May 1989.
Tej K. Magazine of Ranbaxy Labs Ltd, said that information technology (IT) must provide perfect infrastructure - a combination of techno-economic-social development with peaceful security environment. A souvenir on the National Conference was released by Ravindra Gupta. Others who spoke on the occasion include Dr. N.J. Zarabi, Chief Managing Director, Semi Conductor Complex, Dr. Mukul K. Sinha, Director, Expert Software Consultants Ltd, Dr Santosh Dhar, Prestige Institute of Management & Research and many others.
About 150 IT profesionals from all over the country are taking part in the seminar.
