Demo on procedures in tibia fractures

CHANDIGARH, May 14: The earlier method of using plaster for treating fracture of tibia bone is being replaced by the modern technique of interlocking the world over. This was stated by Prof Raj Bahadur Head of Orthopaedics Department Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32.

The Department of Orthopaedics invited Prof K.P. Daga of Sholapur, recipient of the NRDC award, for his indigenous innovation of tibial nail which he named as Daga's nail. Dr Daga demonstrated the surgical procedure in three patients of tibia fractures where he used the screw with one interlocking screw.

Stating the advantages of Daga's nail, Prof Raj Bahadur said that it is a simple and effective way of stabilisation of tibial fracture. "The department has been using interlocking nail system, both imported and indigenous, for the last two years and have done over 100 cases," said Prof Bahadur.
