Good Counsel, Mastan prevail

MUMBAI, May 14: A total of 11 points by top scorer Franco D'Mello helped Good Counsel beat Ghatkopar YMCA 25-22 after trailing 12-14 at half-time in the Colgate sponsored 1st Savio Open State-level Basketball Tournament at Don Bosco School, Matunga today. In another tie, Mastan YMCA B thrashed Fatima Sports Club 21-8 after leading 14-4 at half-time.

Shah makes final

YOUNG Ritesh Shah (hndicap 35) rallied from a two frame defecit to register a 3-2 win over V Gehani in the semi-final of the Selvel sponsored Open Handicap Snooker Tournament for the SR Ruia Challenge Cup at Matharpacady Club today.

He sets up a title clash with V Jaisingh who prevailed over J Thomas in a taught five-frame encounter. Shah's march into the final included breaks of 55, 20 (third frame) and 35 in the fourth frame.

Ritesh Shah (35) bt V Gehani (50) 3-2 (84-104, 85-96, 122-50, 110-87, 100-54); V Jaisingh (55) bt J Thomas (50) 3-2 (116-113, 78-110, 109-88, 74-103, 105-78).

Gladwin scores

Agnel Gladwin ousted fifth seed Arnav Jain to make the under-12 final of the Maharashtra StateJunior Ranking Tennis Tournament at the Bhushan Tennis Academy courts today.

Both players showed amazing stamina with their long rallies and baseline strokes. But in the end, Gladwin, with lesser mistakes won 6-3, 6-4. Gladwin later went on to win the under-10 final.
