SuicideMahipatram Kahar (60), father of fire-brigade employee Yogesh Kahar, reportedly committed suicide by jumping into the Sursagar lake this afternoon. According to a fire brigade spokesman, his body could not be recovered till late this evening. The cause of suicide is not known.
Burns death
One Hemlataben Dilipbhai Patel, a resident of Panigate area, who had reportedly sustained burn injuries due to a fire that occurred when she was pouring kerosene into her stove on Saturday morning, died in S S G Hospital on Monday afternoon. A case of accidental death was registered in the Panigate police station.
Vehicles stolen
Four cases of vehicle lifting were reported from various areas of the city yesterday. According to the police, an Ambassador car (GED 37) worth Rs 50,000 was stolen from the parking lot near gate number one of Kamatibaug while a Sunny moped (GJ 17 A 6033) worth Rs 7,000 was stolen from house nnumber F/1 in Priyadarshini Society in Makarpura. A Hero Honda (GJ 17 B 4141) worth Rs 15,000 was lifted from the corner of Khadia Pole number one in Raopura area and a Luna moped (GJ 6 M 4742) worth Rs 5,000 was stolen from near the Nyaya Mandir fountains, the police said.
Suicide attempt
The Navapura police have registered a case of suicide against one Ganeshbhai Chandubhai Chaudhary, a resident of the slums near SRP group office, who made a bid to end his life by consuming insecticide on Sunday evening. According to the police, the man has an incurable disease and attempted suicide in sheer disappointment from life.
Phones stolen
In two different incidents on Saturday, two mobile phones together valued at Rs 20,000 were reported to have been stolen by unidentified persons. According to police, a cellphone (number 98240-36964) was stolen from Jayantilal Thakkar's office in Ushakiran building in Raopura. Another was stolen from a Maruti car belonging to Jayanbhai Natwarlal Patel of Shantivan Society in Makarpura.
Wall collapse
Four people died and two were injured when a wall collapsed in the Vohward area of Godhra on Sunday. The incident occurred late evening and the persons were declared dead when they were rushed to the Godhra civil Hospital.
