Vikas Yadav gives interview; bail plea withdrawn

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, May 17: At a meeting of senior police officials today, one of the issues that came up for discussion was the interview given by Vikas Yadav -- son of Rajya Sabha MP D.P. Yadav and alleged accomplice of Manu Sharma -- to a Hindi newspaper. The interview, which was published today, has unnerved the police who are still trying to trace Vikas Yadav.

``I have asked the DCP to meet the reporter and seek his cooperation in locating Vikas,'' Kanth said. ``It would have been appropriate if they had informed us about the interview earlier. Of course, they are legally bound to inform the police about a person who is running from the law. The reporter will be meeting us tomorrow.''

Meanwhile, the anticipatory bail application of Vikas Yadav was withdrawn today when it came up for hearing in the court of Additional Sessions Judge P.K. Bhasin. The application was moved on Saturday by Vikas's lawyer, G.K. Bharti.

When the application came up for hearing, Bharti apprised the court about a public interest petition (PIL) filed in the High Court seeking a CBI probe into the murder of Jessica Lal. Bharti told the court that he would like to move the application before the High Court after the court gives a final judgement on the PIL.
